From the Desk of Tammye Huf:
Dear Readers,
When you’re growing up, your family is just your family, and you don’t really think much about it. All of the extraordinary things they’ve done, all the crazy things they’ve done, even the shocking things, get rolled into part of a family identity that you just don’t question as a kid. At least I didn’t.
It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized some of those old family stories are actually pretty wild! And a wonderful jumping-off point for a novel.
But I don’t think my family is unique in having a rich history that deserves to be told. I think that when you dig around the ancestry of most families, sooner or later you’ll find memorable personalities and some pretty juicy stories waiting to be shared.
Those are the stories I love most. Not the tales of great generals and emperors whose names are plastered all over our history books. I want to read about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. People I can relate to who loved, hoped, fought, raged, yearned, laughed, and cried, just like we do generations later. Characters like that remind me how connected we are to the past, and, for me, that’s what makes history come alive.
